outreach email template

Knowing what to say and how to say it when you reach out to someone for the first time is HUGE when it comes to getting them to actually respond. Here are some tips and a handy template that will help you make a great first impression or help with that follow up after meeting someone at an event or through networking.

  1. Introduction: Introduce yourself. Talk about what you do, how you do it, and who you do it for. Always include links to your company’s site/social channels or a recent bit of relevant content explaining what your company does. Re-introduce yourself and remind them of how you’ve met or crossed paths before.

  2. Why them: What made you want to reach out to them specifically?

  3. What you want: Be clear and concise, and if the purpose of reaching out is to explore potential partnership options, frame it in a way that doesn’t sound too open-ended. Put yourself in their shoes.

  4. Next Steps: Be clear with how much time you’re asking for (it ’s best to not ask for more than 30 minutes for the first call.) Use a tool to make scheduling easy such as calendly or your crm tool so you aren’t wasting anyone’s time trying to find time!

  5. The Close: I recommend creating a signature with WiseStamp - it ’s fr ee unless y ou want t o r emove t heir inf o from t he bottom.

THE TEMPLATE

Hi {Name},

My name is (Your Name) and I’m the (Title) at (Company), a (what you or your company does in one to two sentences + for whom). Re-introduce yourself if you’ve met before and remind them of when/where that was.

(Make the ask: State your purpose for reaching out — be clear and concise. Complement them or their organization/company, show that you know something about them and what made you want to reach out to them in the first place.)

If you’re interested and available for a 20 minute call sometime in the coming weeks I’d love to talk through this opportunity and learn more about your goals in the coming months to see where I might be able to support you. (Head here) to choose a time that works best for your schedule. Have a great rest of your week!
